Curriculum

Bucklands Beach Intermediate School offers a comprehensive curriculum grounded in the National Curriculum Framework and aligned to International Baccalaureate PYP Scope and Sequence documents that cater for students of all abilities and learning styles. Students have the security of a homeroom teacher for the majority of their learning in the main subject areas of english, mathematics, science, technology, social studies, the arts and health and physical education.

Every second day students have classes with specialist teachers providing in depth instruction in graphics and design, science, hard materials, food and fabric, music, art and information and communications technology. For more information and photos see the specialist page.

We became a World School, authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in October 2012 following an authorisation visit. IB PYP schools are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that BBI believes is important for our students.  The four-year process of becoming a PYP school led to a rigorous system of curriculum self-review in order to ensure learning which is relevant, challenging, engaging and authentic.

Students are also encouraged to get involved with sporting and cultural activities outside the classroom which complement their learning. There are a large range of opportunities on offer including cricket, softball, table tennis, orienteering, choir, orchestra, production (every second year), Kapa Haka and many more. See the sport and arts pages for more details.

After school classes have been run at BBI for a number of years and are run in two semesters of 15 or 16 weeks each. Information is sent home about these early in the year and you can also read about the programmes currently available in the after school section.
