Having gained a reputation as a school that is constantly developing its high quality learning environment, we appreciate that many parents are keen to have their children attend BBI. Unfortunately due to limited capacity intake numbers must be restricted, largely by the school zone. By law, any students within the zone have the right to attend but we cannot necessarily guarantee a place to those out of zone.
In Zone Applicants
Bucklands Beach Intermediate School will be taking applications for Year 7 students for 2014 from Term 3 2013. Application forms and prospectuses (both in and out of zone) will be sent to our local primary schools (Bucklands Beach, Macleans Primary, Mellons Bay, Pigeon Mountain primary schools and Owairoa) that week for distribution.
You may collect a prospectus and forms from the school office (8.00am-3.30pm) after they are released, or alternatively, please send a large A4 sized, stamped self addressed envelope for us to post it out to you once distribution commences.
The date for in-zone enrolments will be confirmed at a later time.
Out of Zone Applicants – Year 7 students only (it is anticipated that there will be no places for Year 8 out of zone students)
The closing date for out-of-zone enrolments will be confirmed closer to the time.
A ballot will be held for out of zone students.
Any spare places are allocated to out of zone applicants in the following order:
- applicant who is a sibling of a current student of the school
- applicant who is a sibling of a former student of the school
- applicant who is a child of a former student of the school
- applicant who is a child of a board member employee
- all other applicants
You will be required to provide:
- A photocopy of the latest electricity or telephone account to show proof of address.
- (NZ Citizens) A photocopy of NZ Birth certificate or NZ passport (showing date of birth).
- A photocopy of latest school report (end of 2011 is quite acceptable).
If not born in NZ additional requirements are:
- A photocopy of passport showing proof of NZ residency plus date of birth, or
- A photocopy of parent/caregiver’s Work Visa plus student visa if applicable.
Parents of out of zone students included in the ballot will be informed by letter following the conclusion of the process.
BBI Open Day
As with previous years, BBI will be holding an Open Day in Term 3 for prospective parents and students. The date for this event will be confirmed closer to the time.
We are proud to showcase our school to prospective parents. Come along and view our Spealist and school wide programmes in action. We welcome prospective parents for 2014 and for the future.
International Students
International Student enrolments for both Year 7 and Year 8 are very welcome.

Zone
Bucklands Beach Peninsula to Mellons Bay valley including all side roads to the intersection of Gills Rd and Bleakhouse Rd round-about, along Gills Road (both sides) excluding the roads on the Highway side of Gills Road (but including Bain Place), through to Pigeon Mountain Road (both sides), excluding all roads to the west of Pigeon Mountain Road and ending at the water.
