Bucklands Beach Intermediate School (BBI) is a two-year, co-educational school catering for students aged 11-13 years. Approximately 800 students currently attend our school.

The motto for Bucklands Beach Intermediate is “Whaia te Tikitiki”, loosely translated as “Reach for the Heights”, promoting students to set high goals, give their very best and strive for quality outcomes.

This school is recognised as a leading Intermediate School in New Zealand with a strong focus on student learning. The aim of the school is to develop self motivated independent learners who gain an understanding so that they can make a positive difference for their own future. There is an expectation that students will realise that learning is a process in which they participate and learning is seen as something they do, not something done to them. The “learning to learn model”, developed at this school, provides a structure to illustrate how a Student Portfolio supports this end goal. Over many years, Bucklands Beach Intermediate has celebrated successes both nationally and internationally, in a range of curriculum areas. The school prides itself on high achievements.

Throughout the year, the school offers a range of choices for the students in academic, cultural and sporting areas. There is a very strong music programme including 2 choirs, orchestra, ensemble group, band, pop singers and small intrumental groups. There are extension programmes such as mathematics extension and literature group and extra support programmes. After school there are classes available to learn another language and engage in new experiences or extension programmes.

Each year Bucklands Beach Intermediate hosts many visitors from within New Zealand and from overseas. The visitors are made very welcome and are able to view programmes in action. The school welcomes visitors at any stage during the school year, from February to December.
